Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Season Preview

Get Ready for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp’s Season

Minor league baseball is back! Starting March 31, teams like the Sacramento River Cats, the Las Vegas Aviators, and our very own Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp will go head-to-head vying for a shot at the title of Triple-A National Champion.

Originally known as the Jacksonville Suns, the Jumbo Shrimp is an International League team and the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins. The Triple-A alignment is the highest minor league baseball classification, and it consists of 30 teams between the International League and the Pacific Coast League.

Grab yourself some peanuts or cracker jacks because Timoti’s has you covered on what to expect for this season of Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Baseball!

Jumbo Shrimp Matchups

The season kicks off in the best way possible with a battle of the seafood. The Jumbo Shrimp face off against the Gwinnett Stripers, named after the striped bass. This is an away game for the team as they will play at Coolray Field in Georgia. While striped bass is good, nothing compares to Mayport Shrimp, one of the best varieties of shrimp you can eat.

On April 4, the Jumbo Shrimp welcomes fans back to the 121 Financial Ballpark for the team’s opening day. There, the team will go up against the Durham Bulls, the affiliate for the Tampa Bay Rays. The Bulls were also last year’s Triple-A National Champions, beating out the Pacific Coast League champions, the Reno Aces.

The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp will play against new opponents as part of their 2023 season schedule. From April 25 - 30, the team will host the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, the Phillies’ affiliate in the league. They will also face off against the Louisville Bats (Cincinnati Reds affiliate) and the Columbus Clippers (Cleveland Guardians affiliate) before the end of the season.

Jumbo Shrimp Events

The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp’s 2023 season is full of fun events for fans to fully immerse themselves in the team. This includes a fireworks show every Saturday when the Jumbo Shrimp play at home. Here are just a few events and promotions to look forward to this year!

Thirsty Thursday

No baseball game is set without beer. At every Thursday home game, fans can get their fill of 16-oz drafts for $2 and 24-oz drafts for $3. Jumbo Shrimp games make for the best happy hour! Do you know what goes great with drafts at a Jumbo Shrimp game? Fried shrimp, of course. Pair your drinks with some BOOM BOOM SHRIMP at the Southern Fried Freebird concession stand.

Red Shirt Friday

The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp are committed to supporting the military, so every Friday the team and staff will wear red shirts. For the fans, if you wear red, you can save $1 on your ticket at the box office or donate that dollar to charity.

The first Red Shirt Friday is on April 7, and if that’s not enough celebration, you can also enjoy a Friday night fireworks show at the end of the game. What’s more, it’s National Beer Day. There’s no better way to partake in the holiday than with some drafts during the game.

Comic Hero Day

On April 22, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp goes head-to-head with the Nashville Sounds in a home game that will make you go “POW!” That’s right, enter the Shrimpverse when the players don jerseys and caps featuring Captain Crustacean and Dr. Cocktail Sauce. It’s fun for kids and adults alike. Be sure to get your Comic Hero Day merch in the team store. If you’re one of the first 2,000 fans to enter the stadium, you could win a pair of Comic Hero socks!
