The Jacksonville Jaguars and the Upcoming NFL Draft

How the Draft Works

The 2022 NFL draft is coming up next week, starting on Thursday, April 28th and ending on Saturday, April 30th. During the draft, each of the 32 NFL teams has the chance to choose at least one new player in each of the draft’s seven rounds. Some teams, however, choose to trade current players from a different team rather than accepting a new NFL recruit.

The order of draft selections begins with the team who finished last in the previous season, then progresses in reverse order with the team who finished first choosing 20th. Draft slots 21-32 are determined by the previous year’s postseason results. The four teams eliminated in the wild card round pick during slots 21-24. Next, the four teams who were eliminated in the divisional round pick during slots 25-28. After this comes the 29th and 30th slots, which go to the two teams that lost in the conference championships. The team that lost the Superbowl chooses in the 31st slot, and the team who won the Superbowl chooses last.

During the draft, each team has a table set up at the draft venue. Team representatives at the venue stay in constant contact with team executives at the team’s headquarters. When a team has made their selection, they share the player’s name with team representatives, who then write the players name, school, and playing position on a card. This card is handed to an NFL staff member known as a runner. Once the runner receives the card, the selection is considered official, and the draft clock is reset for the next pick.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have the first pick during the draft for the second year in a row. It's hard to predict what the Jaguars might do in terms of recruiting new players. Some fans think they might try to trade players, while others predict they will keep their pick open to welcome a new edge rusher or offensive tackle

Last year, the Jaguars were targeting quarterback Trevor Lawrence throughout the draft process, so it came as no surprise to most fans when he joined the team. After ending the season 3-14, the Jaguars could use help both offensively and defensively. Fans are hopeful that this year will bring more success for the team.
